Amanda “Mandy” Walker passed away on March 31, 2026. She was born Amanda Ann Watts to Joseph Nolan Watts and Betty Sanchez Watts on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1958.

Mandy was a proud graduate of Istrouma High School. She began her career with the Baton Rouge Fire Department as a communications officer on July 16, 1979, and retired as Chief of Communications on March 22, 2008.

Mandy loved her family deeply. She was known for helping anyone in need and had a truly generous heart. She leaves behind her daughter, Jessica Hartwell (Dylan), and her son, Matthew Walker (Jessica). She was a proud grandmother to Isabella, Charlee, Collyn, and Crew, and bonus grandchildren Kylie and Brixton. Mandy cherished spending time with them and being involved in their activities.

She also leaves behind her very special friend and partner, Kevin Schilling, who brought happiness and hope into her life. Mandy had countless friends—too many to name—many of whom she had known since childhood and remained close to throughout her life.

Mandy had a deep faith in Jesus as her Savior and entrusted everything to Him. She attended Journey Church and was a proud “Journey girl” in years past. She also had a love for music, especially the song “Mandy” by Barry Manilow.

She is survived by her brothers, James (Yvonne) and Brent (Sonya), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mandy was preceded in death by her mother, Betty; her father, Joseph; and her older brother, David.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Our Lady of the Lake for their dedication, compassion, and professionalism.
