Arthur Wayne “Art” Cannedy, 80, passed away on August 31, 2026. A proud United States Air Force veteran, devoted husband, loving father and Pawpaw, successful businessman, and loyal friend, Art lived his life with a deep sense of responsibility to the people he loved and the commitments he made.

Art was born on November 20, 1945, in Tallahassee, Florida, to Paul James Cannedy and Margaret Eleanor Tidwell Cannedy. He attended Florida State University and remained a devoted FSU fan throughout his life.

Art proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 as a Security Policeman. He trained as both an Air Policeman and Sentry Dog Handler and completed more than a year of foreign service. During his four years of active duty, Art was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal before receiving an honorable discharge. His military service was a source of great pride and reflected something that would remain constant throughout his life—a desire to serve, protect, and take care of others.

Following his military service, Art continued that calling in law enforcement, serving as a police officer with the Dallas Police Department. He later built an incredibly successful career as a sales engineer with John Crane, where he worked from 1986 until his retirement in 2013.

Art was an exceptional salesman, but his success was never simply about what he sold. He was a relationship-driven businessman from a generation that believed a handshake meant something, your word mattered, and customers were people to be cared for rather than numbers on a page. He earned their trust, built lasting relationships, and took tremendous pride in his work.

But for all of Art’s professional accomplishments, the roles he treasured most had nothing to do with a career.

He was a husband. A dad. A Pawpaw. A great-grandfather. A protector. And a fiercely loyal friend.

For over 28 years, Art loved his wife, Judy Bamber Cannedy, with extraordinary devotion. He loved her fiercely, cared for her, protected her, and stood faithfully beside her through every season of their life together.

Art was the proud father of five children: Joy (Brian) Linxwiler, Marie (Patrick) Cannedy Marks, Shannon Cannedy, Matthew (Whitney) Cannedy, and Adam (Melissa) Cannedy.

One of Art’s greatest joys was being Pawpaw, and his Pawpaw game was unmatched. He showed up, loved big, and made sure his grandchildren knew exactly how important they were to him.

He was the proud grandfather of Michael Dylan (Kaylan) Ivy, Brittni (Bryce) Ivy Boudreaux, Aspen Lea Linxwiler, Sage Marie Linxwiler, Liam Louis Marks, Beckham James Marks, Spencer Renegade Patrick, Scarlett Cannedy, Willa Cannedy, Avonlea Cannedy, Evangeline Cannedy, Rosie Cannedy, Brendan Cannedy, and Addison Cannedy.

His family continued to grow with five precious great-grandchildren: Elliana Joy Ivy, Roman John Ivy, Wyatt Francis Boudreaux, Scarlett Ann Boudreaux, and Juliett Castille Boudreaux.

Art enjoyed fishing, had an unmattched passion for Florida State, and serving on the security team at First Baptist Church of Denham Springs. Perhaps fittingly, even after his military and law-enforcement careers were behind him, Art still found a way to protect and serve the people around him.

Art had a way of quietly becoming indispensable to those who loved him. He never needed to be the loudest person in the room to be one of the most important. He simply showed up. He took care of people. He was dependable. He loved deeply, loyally, and without needing recognition for it.

Among Art’s most precious and dearest friends were Joe Centofanti and Sheri Kirley. The Cannedy family extends its deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Joe and Sheri for their extraordinary friendship, love, devotion, and unwavering commitment to Art. The countless ways they showed up for him will never be forgotten.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Paul James Cannedy and Margaret Eleanor Tidwell Cannedy, and his grandparents, Earl James Cannedy and Ethel Pearl Squires Cannedy, Arthur F. Tidwell, and Clifford C. White.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Patrick Louis Marks, Brian Linxwiler, Michael Dylan Ivy, Joe Centofanti, Chad Dunlap, and Mike Kirley.

Art’s grandsons, Liam Louis Marks and Beckham James Marks, will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Art’s life at First Baptist Church of Denham Springs on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Art’s honor to the Air & Space Forces Aid Society (AFAS), the official charity of the United States Air Force, or the Fisher House Foundation, organizations that honor Art’s military service and his lifelong commitment to caring for others.
