Listen to Obituary

Beverly Ray Thames, Sr., 92, died peacefully in his home on Sunday, May 10th. Beverly fiercely loved his wife, his God and his family. He had a passion for fishing, which went hand-in-hand with his fondness for telling stories and laughing. With his quick wit and mischievous nature, all those he loved fell victim to his good-natured teasing. This was clearly his “love language.” He was a life-long and extremely active member of Live Oak United Methodist Church and recent member of Denham Springs United Methodist Church; and over the years dedicated much of his time and energy to participating in or spearheading volunteer activities such as (and to name just a few): fund-raising efforts for a local battered women’s shelter; assisting with the Watson community “Trash Bash”; original member of the Watson area drainage board, and teaching Sunday School. He was a member and one time president of the Baton Rouge Lions’ Club, his neighborhood’s homeowner’s association, and member and one time president of the Livingston Parish Cattleman’s Association. Many will also surely remember how he would shamelessly brag on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for hours on end.

Beverly was born on April 2nd, 1934 in Watson, Louisiana where he lived his entire life. After graduating from Live Oak High School, he held a variety of interesting jobs, but most of his career was spent in sales and the livestock industry.

Beverly was predeceased by his parents, Isra Thames, Sr. and Celia Impson Thames; his six siblings, William Thames, Ida Lee Thames Arbour, Mary Dell Thames Sanders/Graves, Juanita Thames Cowart, Isra Berlin Thames, Jr., and Julia “Elouise” Thames Williamson, and his daughter, Laney Thames Dean.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Henrietta Stockwell Thames; his four children, Deborah Thames Willis, Charles Ray Thames (Lisa), Beverly Ray Thames, Jr. (Kristen), and Dean Stockwell Thames (Ashley); his ten grandchildren, Bridget Mitchell (Alan), Charles Ray “Charlie” Thames, Jr., Melissa Thames Dore, Keri Thames, Kyle Thames, Sarah Thames Sanders (Justin), Michael Thames (Zoe), Joseph “Luke” Thames, Logan Thames, and Landon Thames (Claire); ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
