Bobby Lee Calvery, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home September 25, 2025.
Bobby was born January 15, 1948, on Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Beecher and Lou Ethel Calvery. Reared in Forest, Mississippi, he graduated from Forest High School in1966 where he played clarinet in the high school band. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1970.
He was wed to his high school sweetheart Joan Windham in August of 1970.
He moved his family to Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, in 1978 where he would spend the rest of his life.
After a brief career as a high school history teacher in Mississippi and with his move to Louisiana, he transitioned to a career in logistics in the liquid asphalt and petroleum industry from which he retired in 2007.
He was a 32° Mason of the Forest Masonic Lodge #437 where he served as Worshipful Master. He was a member of The Scottish Rite Freemasonry – Valley of Meridian, Mississippi.
Bobby loved being in nature. He spent many an hour bird watching, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed traveling all over the country, but he especially loved visiting national parks and Civil War battlefields with his family while on their annual Thanksgiving week vacation. In his downtime, he usually could be found mowing the grass, spending time with his beloved Boston terriers Gracie and BoBo, or rereading one of his many treasured books. One of his favorite activities was to gather his family in the car after church on a Sunday, stop for a coke and a candy bar, and go “loafing” which meant just heading out to nowhere in particular and going where the road would lead them.
In his later life, one of Bobby’s greatest joys was his grandchildren Calista Calvery, Caleb Coughlin, Alexis Calvery, and Jacob Coughlin. They were his pride and joy, and he was their Pops. If they wanted to burn the house down, Pops would have provided matches.
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years Joan Windham Calvery, son Justin and daughter-in-law Bri Calvery of Cumming, Georgia, daughter Chris Ann and son-in-law Glenn Coughlin (his best friend) of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, son Stephen and daughter-in-law Morgan Calvery of Conrad, Montana, niece Kendra Wade Honea and husband Brian and family of Rydal, Georgia, niece Leslie Wade Morgan and husband J. Robin and family of Rome, Georgia, nephew Clark Calvery of Vicksburg, Mississippi, sister-in-law Ellen Calvery Biedenharn of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Glenn’s daughter Rebecca Coughlin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father Beecher and Lou Ethel Calvery, Aunt Barbara Threatt, mother-in-law Vera Mae Windham, his infant twin brother and sister Donald and Glenda Calvery, brother Lloyd Calvery, and sister Sandra Calvery Wade and brother-in-law David Wade.
Bobby was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022 and had faced declining health. The family would like to thank Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge for their services. Also, eternal love and thanks to Shirley Dunn for her love, dedication, and support to “Mr. Bobby and Miss Joan” and their family.
A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area (donorservices.alz.org) in Bobby’s name.
