Boyd Ellis Hood passed away on November 7, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 25, 1947 in Denham Springs, LA to his parents, Boyd Ellis and Elizabeth Morgan Hood. Boyd joined the United States Army in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He went on to attend Southeastern University and earned his Bachelor of Science degree.
In 1972, he married the love of his life, Cheryl Gene Fairchild, and they celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in April. They lived in Central, Louisiana while they raised their two children, April Donielle and Daniel Ellison. Boyd worked hard for his family, first at BASF and then Exxon until he was able to retire.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, John Paul Hood, and his daughter, April. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his son, Daniel along with his fiancé, Tammy Juneau, his son-in-law, Louis Schaff, his grandchildren, Evelyn Elizabeth Schaff, Lily Margaret Schaff, and Louis Peter Schaff Ill, and his sister, Mary Amy.
Boyd was what you would call "the salt of the earth". Ask those who knew and loved him, and the same words keep coming up. He was kind, good, humble, gentle, reliable, and always a steady presence. He was wholly devoted to his wife and kids and worked hard for them to make sure they always had everything they needed. After he retired, he liked to spend time in his vegetable garden, working in his shed, and looked for every opportunity to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids.
He was a sports fan, mostly LSU, and could rarely sit through an entire game before he got too disgusted by either the players, the play calling, or mostly, the officiating.
He will be missed, but his family is grateful that he reunited with his daughter in heaven.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14th at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs from 9:00-11:00 am followed immediately by the service
