Carlos Yusuf Cook, Sr., age 52, passed away on September 19, 2026, in Denham Springs, Louisiana. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Carlos was a proud New Orleanian, a hardworking man, and, above all, a devoted father and grandfather.

For more than 30 years, Carlos worked as a plumber, proudly serving the people of New Orleans and the surrounding communities. He was a man who knew the value of hard work and took pride in providing for those he loved.

But if there was one thing that could get Carlos fired up besides a hard day’s work, it was sports. Carlos was an avid sports fan who loved just about anything involving a ball, a scoreboard, and a little competition. He could often be heard cheering loudly for his beloved New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers, and Tulane, and he never needed much of an excuse to talk sports. Football, baseball, basketball—Carlos loved them all. Whether he was watching the big game or talking about his favorite teams with friends and family, his passion for sports was unmistakable.

Carlos had a way of bringing that same enthusiasm and energy into the lives of those around him. He loved his family dearly and especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. To them, he will always be remembered as a grandfather whose love was as big as his personality.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Carlos Y. Cook, Jr., and his wife, Jyla; six grandchildren, Alexandria, Alex’Aria, Carmen, Caylee, Carlos III, and Carson; seven siblings; the mother of his children, Nedra Butler Thomas; his best friend, Brandon; his grandmother, Gloria; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loved ones.

Carlos was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Carlyi Odea Butler; his mother, Mary Howard; and one grandmother.

Carlos will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His family and friends will remember his hardworking spirit, his love for his hometown, his devotion to his family, and, of course, the unmistakable sound of Carlos cheering for his team. Long after the final whistle, his memory will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
