Catherine Mary Werner was born on July 30, 1952 (on her sister Peggy’s 3rd birthday) in New Orleans and passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026 in Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gretchen Werner, her brother Fred Werner, and her sister Peggy Werner. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Williams (Stephen) and her beloved grandchildren, Emma and Eli Williams, to whom she was known as “Quinoa”. They truly were the light of her life. She is also survived by her brother Paul Werner, sister Nancy LeBlanc (John), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She fell in love with horses at a young age, inspired by the time her father won a horse in a raffle. Later as an adult, she owned her own horses and became an accomplished equestrian, riding in Hunter/Jumper competitions throughout the region. In addition to her love of horses, she owned many dogs (Pebbles, Martha, Bambi, and Cricket).
Catherine attended LSU where she was awarded a B.A. in Art Education. Her interest in education led her to graduate school where she obtained a Master's in Special Education from Southeastern Louisiana University. Catherine had a long career as a Special Education teacher, concentrating on the Early Childhood ages. Her love and care for her students was her guiding principle and many children benefited from her expertise.
A memorial service honoring Catherine will be held in the Baton Rouge area in the summer of 2026. Details will be shared with family and friends at a later time. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
