Charles Ernest Edwards, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud Marine, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born on December 10, 1949 in Gainesville, TX, Charles lived a life defined by strength, determination, and love. A Vietnam War veteran, he served his country with honor as a United States Marine, carrying the values of service and perseverance throughout his life.
He found peace and satisfaction while working in the yard, flying, playing the guitar, wood working and home improvements. There was no project too big or small. He was always present and always made time for family. He taught us how to work hard, lend a helping hand to those in need, and love unconditionally. He was passionate about sharing his knowledge of history, cooking, and health and wellness. He was known by his family and friends as Dr. Google.
He was a man who never sat still for long. An avid runner and fitness enthusiast, Charles found joy in challenging himself physically and took great pride in staying active. He made daily visits to the gym where he made life long friends.
Charles spent over 50 wonderful years married to the love of his life, Karen. Their relationship was a beautiful testament to commitment and partnership. Together they built a family grounded in love and support. He was a deeply proud and loving father to Amy, Brooke, and Chris, and he poured his heart into being a grandfather and great-grandfather. His family was his greatest joy.
He will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, his unwavering love for his family, and the quiet strength that carried him through even the toughest of times. His legacy lives on in all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; his children, Amy and husband Jeff Brown, Brooke and husband David Nelson, and Chris Edwards; his cherished grandchildren (Tyler, Mason, Bonnie Claire, Taylor, Beau, Maggie and Virginia) and great-grandchildren; and many dear friends and extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Charles Edwards, Sr. and Frances Edwards; sister, Anne Edwards; and uncle, Bill Grammar.
A special thanks to his many lifelong friends, especially Keith Kellum. We would also like to send a special thank you to The VA and Dr. Hau, Dr. Keith Kellum and Hospice of Baton Rouge and his many other caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, The VA, Hospice of Baton Rouge, or St. Aloysius Catholic Church in his honor.
Semper Fi, Dad! We love you always.
