Listen to Obituary

Cheryl Frances Boyd Linton was able to celebrate Resurrection Sunday in the arms of her Savior, dying early in the morning on Sunday, April 5th, 2026, at her home in Watson, LA. The day that ended her long battle with cancer became a day of worship for her family, as they mourned with the hope of those whose confidence is in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Cheryl was born on October 28, 1947, in Meridian, MS, to James Edgar, Sr., and Frances Janelle (Rasberry) Boyd, both of whom have preceded her in death. Growing up with her younger brother Jim, she attended Marion Park Elementary and, Northwest Junior High, graduating from Meridian High School in 1965. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, then Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church.

She married the love of her life, Owen Bruce Linton, on December 26, 1967, at the age of 20. They were able to celebrate their 58th anniversary just a few months ago with children and grandchildren gathered around, as they preferred to celebrate it.

Over the years, she served many different offices and universities as an office manager and administrator, but her favorite job, by far, was that of wife, Mom, and Mimi. She adored her husband, two sons, and six grandchildren.

In their retirement years, Cheryl loved to travel with Owen wherever and whenever they could, whether by car or boat. Cruises with their friends and road trips with their grandkids were among her favorites. Their favorite place of solace and rest, though, by far, was Gatlinburg, TN, where they enjoyed many weeks of relaxation through the years at The Riverhouse Motorlodge.

In the last few years, Cheryl was a member of Live Oak Church in Watson. Dr. Mark Crosby and the staff, as well as numerous friends, have been a wonderful help and support during the very difficult previous months.

Cheryl is survived by her loving, caring husband Owen; her son Owen Bruce Linton II, his wife Marsha, and their children Alyssa Brooke Laiche (and her husband Casey) and Ryan Bruce; her son Dr. Michael Boyd Linton, his wife Etta, and their children James (Jamie) Boyd, Jaden Michael, Jasen (Jase) William, and Janelle (Janie) Marie; her brother James Edgar Boyd, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Jamie Linton, Jaden Linton, Ryan Linton, Jase Linton, Casey Laiche, Ken Booker, and Jack Nunneley. Honorary pallbearers William Samuel “Sam” Linton, Dalma L. “Buddy” Massey, Charles Pinion, John Gee, Troy Duplessis, Claude Bridges, and Jeff Terrell.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Live Oak Church, Watson for a visitation starting at 2:00 PM until the funeral service at 4:00 PM conducted by Dr. Mark Crosby. Graveside service will follow at Live Oak Church Cemetery.
