Clay Victor Richard III, age 86, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025.
Born on May 30, 1939, in Port Vincent, Louisiana, Clay was the son of the late Clay V. Richard II and Maude Maria Parent. He lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys.
Clay spent his early years as a dedicated salesman with Magic Chef. After retiring, he became the owner of Country Manor Day School. He was proud of his work and the relationships he built throughout his life. A longtime member of the Baton Rouge Round Table and Alcoholics Anonymous, Clay valued fellowship, service, and personal growth.
He found his greatest happiness at his camp on Graveyard Island, fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed cooking for those he loved and riding his motorcycles. These moments, shared with family and friends, were where Clay felt most at peace.
Clay is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sharon Willard Richard; his daughters, Kym Rychelle Moore and Jody Richard Kennard; and his son, Clay Victor Richard IV. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Ryan Kennard, Coby Kennard, Kendy Fuller, Charles “Chuck” Kintzley, Collin Whittington, Haskell Whittington, Dylan Chaisson, Layne Whittington, Nate BenBassat, Clay “C.V.” Richard V, and Chloe Richard; as well as his great-grandchildren, Logan Fuller, Landon Fuller, Kaia Kennard, Kylie Kennard, Aaiden Chaisson, and Camden Kintzley. He is also survived by his sister, Frances Richard Cambre.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Dina Lynn Richard and Loryn Whittington; his grandson, Ethan Jacob BenBassat; and his parents, Clay V. Richard II and Maude Parent.
A visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in French Settlement on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at St. William’s Church Cemetery in Port Vincent.
Clay will be remembered for his generosity, his stories, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
