Dixon Wineman Campbell passed away at Baton Rouge General Hospital on January 3, 2026, at age 82.
He was born December 6, 1943, in Greenville, Mississippi and was the youngest of four children. He served in the United States Army for 7 years doing 3 tours in Vietnam.
He retired from Industrial Screw & Supply, where he worked as a delivery driver for 25 years. He drove the float for the Krewe of Brew in the Spanish Town parade for many years. He spent his free time fishing and cooking for his family and friends before retiring. Once retired, he spent his time taking care of his and his neighbor’s yards on his riding lawnmower (no matter the weather), taking care of “his” outdoor (stray) cats, giving them plenty of food, water and extra love, cooking for his wife and anyone else that came to visit, and caring for his best friend and companion, his cat Max, who was always by his side (or under his feet) taking care of his Daddy.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Banetta Campbell; his brother, Jack Campbell and wife Mary Lou; his daughter, Patti Henninger; stepdaughters, Eva “Nikki” Stubbs and Courtney Stuckey and her husband Jason; stepson, Zachariah Cockerham; Grandsons, Jake Stubbs, Bobby “Alex” Clements, Austin Clements, Ethan Cockerham and Landon Cockerham; Granddaughters, Allison Stuckey and Raylynn Cockerham; and 6 great grandchildren
He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Edward Campbell; his mother, Emee Clarene Wineman; his sisters Claire Gill Martin and Clayton Brummel; and dear family friend Mary Louise Stephanie “Snookie”.
Although he will be missed greatly, he didn’t want his family and friends to be sad for him and in his own words, “feel sorry for him”. He had a long and great life and was still driving, shopping, cleaning and cooking to the end. We all know that he is up in Heaven cutting the grass and cooking his famous seafood gumbo and fried chicken wings for all.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
