Dolores “Nana” Elizabeth Swope Clevenger, 93, passed away on March 25th, 2026, at The Crossing Hospice Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Born on May 18, 1932 to Luther and Oma Swope in their home in St. Petersburg, Florida, Dolores showed the vivacity, resourcefulness, and generous spirit that would define her life from a young age. She married Kyle Dender Clevenger in 1950 and remained his faithful wife until his death in 2001.
She built houses with her father and learned to sew everything from draperies and upholstery to custom doll clothing for her daughters. She traveled the world with her family into her nineties, even learning how to zipline and scuba dive. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she called her family often to celebrate their successes. She gave generously to numerous charities, including the Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnels to Towers, St. Jude, and Shriners Hospitals for Children. She could be found most evenings reading a book with one of her cats purring in her lap.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Kyle, son Kyle Clevenger II, and sisters Sara Jane, Eloise, and Edna Mae. She is survived by her daughters Page (Kenneth) Wilson, Nancy Cohagan, and Leslie (Ted) Hernandez; her sister Barbara Jean Corbett; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Please join us at Dolores’ graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 18th, 2026, at Resthaven Cemetery, 11817 Jefferson HWY, Baton Rouge, LA. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff at Clarity Hospice & Palliative Care as well as The Crossing Hospice Hospital for their extraordinary service—and requests that you reach out to a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a while, in honor of the woman who loved her family so much.
