Dolores
Vollenweider
Sep 27, 1936 — Oct 3, 2026
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Dolores “Dee” Isabel Sunseri Vollenweider, 90, of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026. Born on September 27, 1936, in New Orleans, she was the daughter of Joseph Sunseri and Isabellita Morales.
Dee treasured the enduring friendships that she formed during her school years at St. Mary’s Dominican, many of which remained important throughout her life. She earned a degree in Art and English Education from Louisiana State University. For 28 years, Dee taught at Glen Oaks Middle School, Glasgow Middle School, McKinley Middle School, and Sherwood Middle School. She cared deeply about educating students, sharing with them not only her knowledge, but also her love of creativity and self-expression.
An accomplished painter, Dee’s expressionistic work often explored the social issues of her time. Her paintings were a meaningful reflection of the way she saw the world and will remain a lasting expression of her thoughtful spirit.
In the kitchen, Dee’s stuffed artichokes, spaghetti and meatballs, and cream puffs were legendary, especially when they appeared during the holidays. Preparing these special dishes became a beloved family tradition.
Reading, writing, sewing, traveling, and discovering the stories of her family’s past were among Dee’s favorite pastimes. Above all, she cherished the time she shared with her family.
Dee is survived by her children, Emmett Jr. (Toni), Mark, Marian (Dennis), Edward (Diane), Thomas, and Timothy (Sally); her brother, Frank Sunseri; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marie Sunseri Giambelluca.
The family will come together privately at a later date, to celebrate Dee’s life and to share memories. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal service. Those who would like to remember Dee in a special way are invited to donate to St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge at https://www.svdpbr.net/donate.
Dee’s kindness, creativity, laughter, stories, and loving presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
