Donald Ray Smith, born November 5, 1952, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, passed away on August 21, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana surrounded by his family.

Donald had a lifelong love of sports, especially football and golf. One of his proudest accomplishments came during his years at Bogalusa High School, where he served as quarterback and helped lead his team to a championship in 1970. His talent and passion for the game continued as he went on to play college football at Northeastern.

While football held a special place in his heart, golf was another true passion. Donald lived and breathed both sports and once had ambitions of becoming a professional golfer. Whether he was on the course himself or following the game, golf remained an important part of his life.

Professionally, Donald worked as an industrial salesman. He was a people person who enjoyed building relationships with his clients, often taking them out and entertaining them as part of the work he enjoyed.

Above all, Donald treasured his family. Some of his greatest joy came from spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. The memories they shared, along with his love of football, golf, and a good time, will be remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Ashley Howe and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Riley Graff, Alayna Howe, and Reese Howe; his childhood best friend, C.W. Wimbely; and numerous other dear friends.

Donald is preceded in death by father, Thomas Smith; mother, Estelle Smith; and brothers, Bruce Smith, and Hugh Smith.
