Dorothy "Dottie" Goldman Knost

Dottie was born in Port Vincent, Louisiana, the first-born of 11 children. She was 83 years old. She died truly peacefully on her farm in Bluff Creek, Louisiana. Dottie was married to Homer Knost for 52 years with whom she shared a life of adventure and love. Dottie was a wife, a mother, a friend and a woman of deep faith. She wore many hats. As a young woman on Road Runner Farm she became a self-taught, accomplished cowgirl who earned recognition and respect with the National Gelbvieh Association. Ms. Dottie volunteered her time, talent and resources at Silliman Institute inspiring and encouraging children through art education. With her love, while sometimes tough, and her fiery spirit, she never missed an opportunity to enrich and guide many children's lives in her community. Dottie graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1960. She treasured her classmates and maintained many of their friendships throughout her life. Dottie and Homer fell in love with Wyoming, Buffalo in particular. They had a home and countless friends that gave her happiness and many memories until her end.

Dottie is survived by her three children; Thonsa R. “Scottie” Knost, George H. Knost, III, Edward W. Knost; stepchildren: Jayne Knost Snyder, Dr. James Allen Knost and Karla Knost Lutrell; daughters in law, Tamara Kauffman Knost, Tonya Fleming Knost, Deborah Knost and Sara Knost and many grandchildren. Dottie is also survived by her siblings; Melissa G. Alessi, Alonzo M. Goldman (Lukie), Winnie M. Allen, Horace "Sam" Goldman, Mary G. Fields (Tony) and Cecil A. Goldman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dottie is preceded in death by her parents Minnie C. Goldman and Alonzo M. Goldman, her late husband, Homer Knost, former husband, Richard Rene Rice, siblings; James C. Goldman, Susie B. Goldman, Sarah G. Lee and Patricia G. Yost; step-son, Tom Knost, granddaughter, Candace M. Knost, nephew, Andrew J. Alessi and niece, Melissa M. Goldman.

Dottie Knost was an independent, strong-willed woman. Unfortunately, that slowly came to an end when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was blessed to have had devoted, compassionate caregivers; Ana Elias, Robin Williams and Doll Peavy to whom the family will always be grateful. The family extends a special thanks to Louis Ringo for his hard work on her farm. And a debt of gratitude is owed to Robert "Bob" Selders for his 53 years of tireless work and dedication in managing her cattle operation and Road Runner Farms. His commitment, loyalty, patience and love to every member of Dottie's family was unmatchable. Pall bearers are Clint Goldman, Blake Goldman, Mario Alessi, Donnie Simoneaux, Mike Hayden and Louis Ringo.

There will be a service held at Bluff Creek Baptist Church (1706 Hwy 63, Clinton LA 70722) on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 9:00am to 11:00am. Burial will follow at Knost Cemetery. Come casual. Come celebrate the life of the Dottie Knost you all knew and loved.
