Duke Campbell passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 19, 2026, at the age of 93. Surrounded by the love of his family, he went to be with the Lord and was joyfully reunited with his beloved wife of over six decades, Yvonne.
Born on September 13, 1932, in Coalmont, Tennessee, to Tobias and Lucy Campbell, Duke was raised in a large, loving family alongside his sister, Mae Ellen, and his five brothers, William H. (Bill), Lillard, Lawrence (Doc), Tobe (Bug), and Paul Ray. On November 28, 1957, he married the absolute love of his life, Catherine Yvonne Russell. The following year, they welcomed their daughter, Robin, and began a beautiful legacy together grounded in unwavering faith, mutual devotion, and a family that was his greatest pride.
Duke and Yvonne owned and operated Russell's Grocery in Fairdealing, Missouri, where they served their community with the same warmth and generosity that defined every part of their lives. They eventually settled in Denham Springs, Louisiana, a home they loved dearly for the rest of their years together.
Duke will be remembered for his playful spirit, boundless creativity, deep graciousness, and fierce love for his family — and for his lifelong love of music. A naturally gifted musician who could seamlessly play the guitar by ear, he filled his home and the lives of those around him with song. He poured his heart into his faith, even writing a number of his own gospel songs. Despite a lifelong hearing challenge, Duke never let anything dim the music inside him. Whether he was singing, playing, or crafting something beautiful with his hands, he possessed a remarkable ability to bring warmth and joy to any room, leaving a lasting impact on all who were blessed to know him.
Beyond music, Duke was a gifted craftsman who built beautiful birdhouses and even a tabletop water mill — each one made with the same care and creativity he brought to everything he touched. He loved nothing more than gathering around a table of good home-cooked food with the people he cherished most.
Left to cherish Duke's memory are his loving daughter Robin and son-in-law Glen Kirby; grandchildren Adam Kirby and wife Mariya, and Angela Kirby; and his treasured great-grandchildren Lilah Nixon, Kirby Nixon, Paxton Nixon, and Luke Kirby, along with a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Yvonne, his parents, Tobias and Lucy, and all of his siblings: Mae Ellen, Bill, Lillard, Doc, Bug, and Paul Ray.
A visitation and time of fellowship honoring Duke's life will be held this Sunday, March 1st, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Cornerstone Fellowship Church of God, 1951 Florida Blvd SW (Between Veterans Blvd and 4H Club Road), Denham Springs, LA 70726. Food will be provided as friends and family gather to share memories and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests contributions to Cornerstone Fellowship Church of God in Duke's honor.
We take profound comfort in knowing that Duke is now in the loving presence of his Lord and Savior, reunited once again with his beloved Yvonne. His faith, strength, and legacy of love will continue to guide his family, and his memory will forever remain etched in our hearts until we are all reunited in Heaven.
