Edith “Jann” Benson Carlock, 68, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was called home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 2, 1957, in Baton Rouge, Jann was a woman of deep passions. She had a love for horses from the time she was a little girl and went on to become a nationally ranked dressage competitor. She had a deep love for animals and was also an avid runner, finding peace in the rhythm of each mile. At home, she expressed her creative side through interior design and her love of flowers. She delighted in being a mom to her three daughters, “her girls” being the light of her life. Jann’s warm smile, kindness, and generosity will carry on through those that had the privilege to know and love her.
Jann was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Jean Parker Benson, Luther Fortenberry, and Jack Benson; her brother, Jack Clark Benson; and her husband, David Morris Carlock.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sister Regina "Brittany" Cochran, Devon Brooke Cochran, and Farran Morris Carlock; her sister, Lesa Benson Kelley and husband Dennis Kelley; her brother, Gary Benson and wife Hope Benson; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (2250 Main St, Baton Rouge, LA 70802).
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Saint Vincent de Paul (https://www.wesharegiving.org/app/giving/WeShare-2686?tab=home) or The Companion Animal Alliance (https://www.caabr.org/).
May Jann rest now in the arms of her Savior, reunited with those she loved.
