A master mason by trade, he dedicated decades of his life to working with brick, block, and stone. Whether building new construction or restoring existing structures, he was widely known among contractors, colleagues, and clients for his skill, precision, and deep knowledge of his craft. The foundations he laid in his work reflected the steady character he carried throughout his life.

Above all else, Ernest was a family man. He worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved. He was strong and dependable. His love for his family and friends was evident in all he did.

He possessed a sharp and curious mind and held a lifelong fascination with space and the universe. He often found wonder in the vastness of the night sky.

He is survived by his son, Clay A Behrnes; his grandsons, Mark T Behrnes Jr. and Taylor J Behrnes; sisters Shirley Blocker and Glenda Boudreaux.
