Gay Mingyan Rhodus Slaven, age 84, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Borne on December 2, 1939, in Kentwood, LA.  Gay was the loving daughter of the late Henry Maurice Rhodus and Mary Iva (Ivy) Rhodus.  She is proceeded in death by her sisters, Marilynn Sue Rhodus and Betty Faye Williams.

Gay was a feisty and giving individual who touched the lives of many.  She dedicated many years of her life to her career, working at Movie Star Garment until her retirement.  Even after retiring, she returned to the work environment to train personnel for Cox.  Gay’s commitment and dedication to her work were truly commendable.

Gay, developed a love of basketball in high school, where she played for Spring Creek.  Her love for the sport continued throughout her years and brought her joy and allowed her to connect with others who shared her passion for the sport.

Gay is survived by her daughter, Debra Fitzgerald Sala (Thomas) of Baton Rouge, along with her granddaughters, Erinn Bocock (Thomas) and Karsen Sala, both of Baton Rouge, and her sweet great-grandson, Bennett Bocock.  She is also survived by her brother, William (Billy) Rhodus (Charlotte) of Kentwood, and several nieces and nephews, including Donna Benes, Terri Gullatt, Doug Williams, Rebecca Horne and Megan Roberts.

A memorial service to celebrate Gay’s life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at East Fork Baptist Church in Kentwood, LA.  Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the memorial service.

Gay will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.  Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
