In Loving Memory of James “Mike” Still

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James “Mike” Still, a devoted family man, passionate golfer, and unforgettable personality whose presence could never be ignored.

Mike Still was born in Houston, Texas on May 18, 1944. He married the love of his life, Linda Cobb Still on June 26, 1965, in Beaumont, Texas. Shortly thereafter, he proudly served his country with the United States Air Force for four years. Mike and Linda went on to have 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Mike was also an innovative businessman whose vision, determination, and strong work ethic helped him build a successful career. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Houston, he spent more than five decades in the heat exchanger industry. Although his career centered on sales, Mikes passion was always the engineering behind the product. He took tremendous pride in that. Mike believed that quality should never be compromised, and that philosophy guided every relationship he built through his career. He refused to represent anything he didn’t believe in. His technical knowledge, honesty and uncompromising standards earned him the trust and respect of customers and colleagues allowing him to rise to the top of his profession more than once before retiring at age of 77.

More than his professional accomplishments, Mike took great pride in being a devoted provider for his family. He worked tirelessly to create opportunities, offer security, and ensure those he loved were well cared for. His legacy is not only found in the businesses he built, but in the values of perseverance, generosity, and responsibility that he passed on to future generations. He may not have always expressed his affection with gentle words, but his actions spoke louder than anything he could say—through his protection, his consistency and his steadfast devotion. In his later years, he found a new obsession-- his great-grandson, Tripp, whom he absolutely adored. He loved watching him grow and sharing in the simple joys of being "Pap Paw." Tripp brought a special light into his life, and nothing made him smile more.

To know him was to know a man who was truly a force to be reckoned with. He was opinionated and never hesitated to tell you exactly what he thought. He could be gruff, stubborn, and set in his ways, but beneath that tough exterior was a heart of gold. If you were fortunate enough to earn his love and respect, you had it for life.

Often known as “Mr. Golf,” golf was woven into the fabric of his life and was one of the things that brought him the greatest joy. Golf wasn't simply a hobby—it was one of his deepest passions. He loved everything about the game: the challenge, the competition, the camaraderie, and the quiet hours spent on the course. He always found significant purpose and profound peace with a club in his hand.

Just as recognizable as his love for golf was the familiar sight of him with his favorite pipe in hand. It suited him perfectly—a man who lived life on his own terms and never pretended to be anyone but himself.

Six months ago, he suffered the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife, Linda Pearl Still, his partner for life of 61 years. Her absence left an emptiness that never truly healed. Though he carried on with strength, those closest to him knew his heart had never been the same. It brings comfort to imagine they are together again, reunited after their brief separation.

A force to be reckoned with, golfer at heart, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud great-grandfather. A man with a tough exterior, a heart of gold, and a legacy that will never be forgotten.

Mike/ Mr. Golf/ Dad/ Pap Paw will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.

Mike is survived by his son Christopher Still, his daughters, Emily Wood and Sarah Still, daughter in law Angie Still. His memory is also carried on by his grandchildren, Evangeline Still, Hannah Still Clement, Alexander Still, Brooks Wood, Luke Wood, and Betsy Wood, and his great grandson Tripp Neal. He is proceeded by in death by his father Malcolm Carlye Still, mother Georgia “Syble” Sullivan Still, and brother Malcolm Still.
