The Patriarch of our family, Janice Rae Ellis Tiner passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at her home surrounded by her 2 daughters. She entered Heaven after being blessed with 98 ½ years. Janice was born on September 9, 1927 in Walker, Louisiana to Glenn and Larrecie Thompson Ellis.
She was the oldest surviving member of Walker Baptist Church where she attended all her life. Janice and Billy raised their family in church and she attended until her health didn’t permit her to go.
Janice was a Surgical Registered Nurse having worked at Baton Rouge General, a Laredo, Texas hospital, and at Dixon Memorial Hospital from the day it opened to the day it closed.
Janice is survived by her daughters Glenda Jones (V.J.) and Susan Magee (Fred); grandchildren, Brent Jones (Tammy), Cherie Odom, Angela “Missy” Clark (Ed), and James Tiner; great grandchildren, Kingsley Clark, Tommy Clark (Claire), Camille Berrigan (Michael), Joshua Chapman, Michael Jones (Britney), Brianna Jones, Meghan Odom Dwyer (Mason), and Landon Odom; great-great grandchildren, Emersyn and Ellie Jones, Presley Dwyer, and Clark Berrigan; brother, Carlton Ellis (Sherri); and sister-in-law, Betty Jo Ellis.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, her husband Billy Tiner; brothers, Leslie and Douglas Ellis; sister, Jerry Varnado and her husband Wimberlin; and mother and father-in-law, Daisy and Buford Tiner.
Relatives and friends are invited to join in a celebration of her life held at Walker Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 with a visitation starting at 9:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM, conducted by Rev. Mike Hegwood and Rev. Jason McNaughten. Graveside service and burial will follow at Walker Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Tiner, Brent Jones, Landon Odom, Michael Jones, David Ellis, and John Varnado.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Chapman, Tommy Clark, Aaron Ellis, Patrick Ellis, Shannon Ellis and Derek Ellis.
A special thank you to Clarity Hospice for showing love and care to her the last 6 weeks.
Also, a very special thanks to her dear friend Judy Sanders who she thought the world of and has been a constant in her life.
