Jerry Slaton, born on May 9, 1946, peacefully passed away at his home on July 12, 2025. He is lovingly remembered by his family, including his children, Michelle Slaton Sibley and Jerry Dale (Bubba) Slaton, along with their spouses, Terry Sibley and Tracy Slaton. He was a loving brother to his sisters, Marguerite Bamburg and Shirley Jean Roe, and her spouse Roy Roe, as well as Brother-In-Law, Johnny Terrell and his wife Barbara, and his Brother-In-Law, George Terrell and wife Judy. Jerry was also a proud grandfather to Kayla Sibley Cassard and her husband Trevor, Karmyn Sibley Harris and her husband Brody, Shelbie Slaton Miller and her husband Seth, and Brandilyn Slaton. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Camille Cassard, Jackson Miller, Colson Miller, and Gibson Miller.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Terrell Slaton, as well as his parents, Lena and William Slaton, and his sisters, Betty Lou Thames and Clara Faye Blount.
For over 55 years, Jerry owned and operated Slaton Framing Construction, where he, along with his son and family crew, constructed innumerable homes in Watson and the surrounding area. His dedication to his work was matched only by his love for the outdoors, particularly his passion for listening to dogs run. In his earlier years, he cherished rabbit hunting, later finding joy in running Walker Hounds in the fox pen. Always connected to his canine companions, Jerry could often be found with a pack of dogs in his truck's dog crate. He'd kiss his wife, Betty, and say, "I'm headed to the woods!"
Known for his energetic spirit, Jerry embraced life with enthusiasm, rarely slowing down. He was built for speed. Everything he did was in a hurry. He didn’t like to “drag around” as he called it. He ate fast, drove fast, & could work circles around most mere mortals. He valued his family, friends, and faith deeply, reading his bible every day.
Jerry Slaton's remarkable life will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will live on through the love he shared with those around him.
