Listen to Obituary

Jettie Dorcas Jones Markham, loving known as “MawMaw Britches” age 96 of Denham Springs, LA passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026.

Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life, shaping the way she loved, served and showed up for others each day. Her life was marked by a genuine devotion to caring for people well, reflecting the heart of Jesus in both word and action. She made people feel seen, valued and loved.

Her middle name was Dorcus, and this name reflected the life she faithfully lived. Like Dorcus in the Bible, she was known for her acts of kindness and service to others. Whether she was faithfully teaching her 3-year-old Sunday School class for decades, offering love and acceptance right where people were, writing a heartfelt note, gently pointing others to Jesus through her wisdom and kindness or intentionally showing up for her family, she lived a life that was full, meaningful and deeply impactful. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were blessed by her wisdom, gentle spirit and unconditional love.

She experienced both the highs and lows that life brings, yet through it all, her faith remained steady. It was her anchor, her strength, and the source of the love she so freely gave to others.

She is survived by her children Wayne Markham (Mary), Jacqueline Lee, and Lisa Coleman (Russell); her grandchildren Burton Markham, Elizabeth Sahs (Cody), Christine Varnado (Matthew), Catherine Johnson (Joshua); and great grandchildren, Grant Porter, Lawson Varnado, Liam Varnado, Lincoln Varnado, Jackson Sahs, Ezekiel Sahs, Paxton Johnson, and Paisley Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Markham, her son, Kenneth Markham and her granddaughter Jaime Porter.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Seale Funeral Home, 1720 S. Range Ave, Denham Springs for a visitation starting at 11:00 am until the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Graveside service will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

A special thank you to the caring staff at La Plantation and the sweet residents.

Her legacy of faith and love will live on for generations to come.

“…a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

“…faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

Her life was a blessing.
