Johanna Alice Melancon, born August 23, 1951, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in her hometown on March 14, 2026.
Johanna was a lifelong Baton Rouge resident whose quiet strength, generosity, and deep love for her family shaped every chapter of her life. She was a devoted Christian whose faith guided her life and gave her comfort, purpose, and hope. She attended Robert E. Lee High School, where she formed friendships and memories that stayed with her throughout her life. She carried herself with a gentle spirit and a steady resilience, offering support, humor, and kindness to those fortunate enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bernice Melancon; her brother, Darryl Melancon; and her daughter, Stacey McAllister.
Johanna is survived by her son, Donnie (Melissa) Fontenot; her sister, Cheryl (Frank) Hurstell; her brother, Paul (Becky) Melancon; her grandchildren, Jaykeb Fontenot and Cash Fontenot; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. She also leaves behind her cherished granddogs—Piper, Toby, Tucker, and Wrigley—who brought her joy and companionship.
Johanna’s legacy lives on in the family she loved fiercely and the countless small acts of care she offered throughout her life. She will be remembered for her warmth, her loyalty, her faith, and the steady presence she provided to those around her. She will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Vineyard Church of Baton Rouge, located at 16761 Tiger Bend Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70817. Fellowship will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Companion Animal Alliance, 2550 Gourrier Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70820, or online at www.caabr.org, in honor of Johanna’s lifelong love for animals.
The family extends a special thank you to Vineyard Church of Baton Rouge for their kindness, support, and care during this time.
