John Joseph Campo, Sr., age 86, of Amite, LA, was called to his eternal home on March 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born December 16, 1939 to the late Joe J. Campo and Fannie Schittone Campo.
He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He is survived and missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Carol Parrino Campo, and their five children; John Joseph Campo Jr., Tony Campo (Stephanie), Natalie Campo Temple (the late Earl), Madonna Campo Liuzza (Mike) and Steven Campo (Ida), eleven grandchildren; Jonathon, Kristopher, Kristina (Stephen), Jordan, Karoline, Nicholas (Dani), Michael, Samuel (Dixie), Giovanni, Maria and Nathanael, and thirteen great-grandchildren; Alexis, Shea, Jexi, John Paul, Annalise, Beckham, Emily, Olivia, Audrey, Everly, Rainey, Annley and Jack.
He is also survived by his sister, Catherine Adomitis. He is preceded in death by his siblings; Steve J. Campo Jr., Sarah Guzzardo, Mary Lavigne, and John J. Campo.
John dedicated much of his life to serving both his community and his family with hard work and faith. He spent 20 years with Western Southern Life Insurance Company, where his outstanding performance earned him the prestigious “Million Dollar Circle” award. After retiring, John continued his service by joining the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he faithfully served as a civil deputy for another 20 years and was widely recognized for his dedication. In that role, he became a familiar and comforting presence in the community, escorting the Amite High School football team to their games and leading funeral processions throughout the parish.
A devoted member of St. Helena Catholic Church, John played an active role in parish life. He helped initiate the idea of a yearly church barbecue to raise funds, served as an usher, and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. John had a passion for many things—sports, music, hunting, fishing, and cooking—but above all, he cherished being a father to his five children. He led by example, teaching them the importance of faith and the value of always putting God first in everything they do.
John loved his wife deeply and was always supportive of her dedication to their family business, Solid Gold Jewelry in Amite, where she and her son John Jr. have faithfully served the community for 38 years. His life was marked by devotion—to his faith, his work, his community, and most of all, to his family.
John will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and by his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy. With faith and gratitude for the life he lived, his devoted wife and children entrust him to the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. They pray that he is welcomed with the words of Christ: “Come, enter into my kingdom, my faithful servant, for you have finished the race.”
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the hospice staff for the compassionate care that helped make his passing peaceful, and to the church staff for their prayers, kindness, and unwavering support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Helena Catholic Church building fund in honor of John.
Visitation will take place at St. Helena Catholic Church Hall in Amite, LA on Wednesday, March 11 from 9:00-10:30AM with a Funeral Mass immediately following. Interment at Amite Memorial Gardens on South Laurel St. in Amite, LA.
