Joseph Daniel Kersey, Sr., passed away on May 13, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on June 5, 1961, Joseph was a hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to his trade as a transmission mechanic. Through years of experience and determination, he eventually fulfilled his dream of owning his own business, Joe’s Area Transmission, where he was known for his skill, honesty, and willingness to help others. Joseph was a lifetime member of Bar KS Hunting Club and found great joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and especially looked forward to the annual squirrel hunting trips shared with his family — traditions and memories that will be cherished for years to come. He was also an avid LSU sports fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Tigers. Above all else, Joseph treasured time spent with his family and friends. Whether gathered around sharing stories, watching a game, or simply enjoying each other’s company, he valued the moments spent with those he loved most. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, laughter, and love that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Haley Skaines (Kevin), sons Joe Kersey (Jessi) and Brian Kersey (Brittany), grandchildren Trey, Bean, Sissy, Bryson, Sylvia, Ava, Scarlet, and Kaylie, sisters Georgetta Kersey (Thomas), Loretta Sylvest, and Ida Marie Bottoms, brothers Jerry Kersey (Melissa), Mark Kersey (Allison), Brillo Sylvest, Ed Sylvest, Billy Sylvest (Denise), and Harry Kersey, numerous nieces and nephews, and many honorary nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He is preceded in passing by father Harry Kersey, mother Maxine Sylvest, daughter Diana Kersey, brother David Kersey, brother Lloyd Kersey, sister Faye May, and step-dad Ralph Sylvest.
