Leila Mae Norwood Mayers

Leila was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was called to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 17. She was 96 years old and a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Watson. She was a member of Watson Baptist Church. Visitation at will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, Wednesday, July 23, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. John Pemberton of Watson Baptist. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery, Baton Rouge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Feltus Gilbert Mayers; son Keith Alan Mayers; daughter Connie Mayers Gerstein; two sons-in-law Donald Matheson and Cecil Edmond Hall; and grandson Nicholas Roppolo. Parents Hunter DeWitt Norwood and Roberta Fridge Norwood and four brothers and two sisters.

Survived by her daughters Kathy Matheson; Peggy Hall; Lea Roppolo (Steve); daughter-n-law Robin Mayers and son-in-law Fred Gerstein. Eleven grandchildren, Kimberley Bernard (Daniel); Shawn Bourque; Brandon Bourque (Jessie); Benjamin Hall (Kellie); Laura Hall; Kristy Roy (Kevin); Rodney Gerstein (Amy); Jacob Mayers (Dagmar); Jared Mayers (Natalie); Sarah Smith (Logan); Bradley Roppolo and 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble and card games all of her life. She had coffee made everyday at 2:00 and welcomed family and friends to stop by for a visit.

The family thanks Dr. Jack R. Reid, MD for the healthcare he has given her over the past years and for the care and support Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge has provided to their mom. A special thank you to Melinda Mizell for being Leila’s dedicated caregiver and friend for over 3 years.
