Linda Heinrichs Churay, 81, passed away on August 16, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Linda was born on October 21, 1944, in St. Petersburg, Florida. She moved to Baton Rouge while in high school and graduated from Lee High School in 1962 before attending Louisiana State University. Linda and her husband Mark were married in 1966.
In 1975, Linda and her young family moved to Denham Springs, where she remained a longtime resident. Her life was devoted above all to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She found joy in gardening and traveling, and also gave generously of her time to others, serving as a Girl Scout leader and a lector at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. After raising their family, she and Mark grew to love taking cruises and spending time together on the beach.
Linda lived with dementia during the final years of her life, but the disease never took away her ability to find joy in each day or the love she shared with her family. Even through those years, she remained surrounded by the people who loved her and continued to find happiness in the life around her until the very end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Hoover Heinrichs; her husband, Mark K. Churay; and her son, Mark Stephen Churay.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Elisa Churay Vinson (Chris), and Elizabeth Churay Matherne; and her five grandchildren, Abby Vinson, Ben Vinson, Jac Churay, Aubrey Matherne, and Evan Matherne.
Linda will be remembered for a life centered on family, service, and love, and for the joy that remained with her even through life’s most difficult years. The family wishes to thank Sunrise of Baton Rouge and Hospice of Baton Rouge for the compassionate care they provided Linda.
Visitation will take place at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM with funeral mass beginning at 10:30 AM and burial to immediately follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
