Mary Elaine Shepherd Owenby, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 84.
Mary was born in Raleigh, Mississippi to Lloyd and Mamie Mayfield. She went on to pursue her education and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business. Throughout her life, Mary’s loving nature and gentle personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a proud and active member of Live Oak Church in Watson, finding both spiritual connection and fellowship among her church family. Her commitment extended to the Live Oak Church Quilters Club, where she found peace and happiness in crafting beautiful quilts with dear friends. Above all, Mary cherished time spent with her family and friends and created lasting memories that will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty Shepherd Williams(Steve); sons, Jerold Shepherd (Rita) and Jim Shepherd (Aimee); son-in-law, Billy Goldman; daughter-in-law, Myrna Shepherd; grandchildren, Bill Goldman, Angie Turner, Brian Goldman, Davey Shepherd, Lee Shepherd, Jeremy Shepherd, Weston Shepherd, Madison Coburn, Nicholas Shepherd, Austin Efferson, Mason Efferson, Jake Williams, and Jamie Gomez; sister, Sarah Pierce , as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husbands, James Shepherd and Charles Owenby; parents, Lloyd and Mamie Mayfield; daughter, Linda Shepherd Goldman; son, Chester Shepherd, as well as brothers; James Mayfield and Hilmer Mayfield.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family in celebrating Mary's life on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Live Oak Church in Watson for a visitation starting at 9:30 AM until the service at 11:00 AM. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Live Oak Church in memory of Mary Owenby.
