Nellie Mae McLin Sullivan passed away peacefully at her home in Central City, LA on March 12, 2026, at the age of 96.
She was born in Livingston, LA on June 29, 1929 to John Robert and Eunice Estelle Sibley McLin. She was one of 9 children. She married the love of her life, Eugene Tunney Sullivan, on her birthday in 1948. Together they shared 68 years together until his death on May 9, 2016.
Among things Mom considered her accomplishments was that she lived a life God would have wanted for her and that she was a good and loving wife and mother. She was raised during the Great Depression and knew hard times.
After having to drop out of school in the first grade because her parents, she and her siblings fell ill with measles, she was determined to start first grade again the following year. She was especially proud to earn her high school diploma from Doyle High School in 1947, the first in her family.
She was active in all her children’s activities at Central High School. An excellent seamstress, she sewed clothes (using a pattern but often without one) for her daughters including beauty pageant, prom, bridesmaids and wedding gowns.
She supported her husband while he worked at Exxon by keeping their home clean, comfortable, and providing delicious food on the table and a cup of strong Community Coffee. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren enjoyed her specialties, Chicken & Dumplings and Shrimp Gumbo.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Tunney Sullivan, parents, John R. and Eunice E. Sibley McLin, 8 siblings, Dariel, Serena, Lizzie, Christine, Elvena, Edmond, Lester and Huey and great-grandson, Nic Cook.
She is survived by her children, Betty Sullivan Covington (Jim), Linda Sullivan Kiffe, Michael Sullivan (Kathy), grandchildren, Jennifer Erwin (Trent), Josh Hooker (Renee’), Lindsey Trueil (Brian), Brian Sullivan (Linnea), Shay Sullivan (Audra), Jeffrey Covington; great-grandchildren, Claire Hooker, Kailey Hooker, Faith Erwin, C.J. Trueil, and Corban Hooker; great-great-grandchildren, Rion Moore, Blakelynn Larry, Aleigha Cook and Teegan Hooker and sister-in-law Nell Passman.
Pallbearers will be Josh Hooker, Brian Sullivan, Edmond Arledge, Huey McLin, Kenny McLin and Brian Trueil.
