Norman Richard Schlatre, 78, of Baker, Louisiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 7, 1947, in Baton Rouge to Norman R. Schlatre Jr. and Helen Watts Schlatre, Norman lived a life full of devotion—to his family, his faith, and his passions.

A proud veteran, Norman served his country in the National Guard. He went on to work as a skilled machinist at ExxonMobil, where his strong work ethic and dedication left a lasting impression on his colleagues. Outside of his career, Norman poured his heart into service. He was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, a deacon, and a cherished voice in the choir at Galilee Baptist Church.

Norman had a lifelong love for Paula and his family, Goldwing motorcycles, mastering the art of motorcycle mechanics and exploring the world of computer engineering. His curious mind and mechanical talent brought joy not only to himself but to all who knew him.

Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Paula Hughes Schlatre; his sons, Jason Paul Schlatre(Shan) and Timothy “Ryan” Schlatre (Sissy); his grandchildren, Paige Wilkins (Ryan), Savanna Richardson (Flash), Kimberly Searcy (Patrick), and James “Cole” Schlatre; and his great-grandchildren, Bryson Bruce, Bayleigh Searcy, Lillie Richardson, Emery Richardson, Ashton Wilkins, Addison Wilkins, and Stetson Schlatre. He is also survived by his brothers, Don (Meg) and Mike (Cindy), along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman R. Schlatre Jr. and Helen Watts Schlatre.

A celebration of Norman’s life will be held at Galilee Baptist Church, with details to be announced at a later date. Norman will be remembered for his unwavering faith, servant’s heart, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends.
