Opal Williams Walker, 91, of Denham Springs, peacefully stepped into eternity with her family at her side Friday, July 24, 2026. Opal was a graduate of Baskin High School, Baskin LA, where she was a very proud member of State Championship Women’s Basketball team for four consecutive years, spanning 1948 to 1953. She worked for many years as the secretary or First Baptist Church as well as the office manager for the KOA Campground. She and her husband loved to travel, including to Yellowstone National Park where they lived for 6 years and to the Everglades where they lived for 5 years. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed doing needlework. Opal loved watching college sports, especially reliving her glory years on the hardwood as an avid fan of the LSU Women’s Basketball Team. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and she will be dearly missed by all whom she knew.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ansford Walker; her precious grandson, Daniel Walker; parents, Dennis and Ruth Williams; sister, Minnie Wilson; and brother, Dennis “Bud” Williams.
Opal is survived by her children and their spouses, Teressa Walker LaGroue and husband, Densyl, Durwin Walker and Wife, Cynthia, and Danny Walker, and wife, Sandy; grandchildren, Brandon and Erin, Michael, Marcus and Amanda LaGroue, Patrick and Erin Walker, Matthew and Colleen Walker and Douglas and Kat Walker, Chris and Kathryn Walker Martin, Rachel Rizzuto, Michael and Katie Rizzuto; great-grandchildren, Camryn, Ryann, Jack, Daniel Jr., Anthony, Nicholas, Sammy, Christopher, Emily, Luke, Sophie, Grace, Mary Catherine, Eleanor, Olivia, Caroline, Elizabeth, John Charles, and William; brothers, Chester and Jerry Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, Greenwell Springs, Tuesday, July 28, from 10 a.m. until service at 12 p.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael and Marcus LaGroue, Patrick, Matthew and Douglas Walker, and Michael Rizzuto. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon LaGroue, Rachel Rizzuto, and Kathryn Walker Martin.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the House of Grace – Wendy, Angelle, Bonnie, and Yoselin; In His Care Hospice; and her nurses, but especially, Lisa, who gave above and beyond in her care. We will forever be grateful for the love you have given “Granny”.
