Listen to Obituary

Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Peggy Sue Gibson Fairchild passed peacefully from this Earth on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at her home in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Born to Charles and Frances Gibson on March 26, 1951 in Hammond, Louisiana, she lived a life full of service and love. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 54 years, Richard, daughter Dawn Fairchild Fabre, son-in-law Randy Fabre, and grandchildren Larson and Laine Fabre.

She is a 1969 graduate of Hammond High School. She continued her education at Southeastern Louisiana University, graduating in 1973 with a degree in special education. She later returned to SLU to earn her Master’s Degree in Elementary School Counseling in 1992. She spent 31 and half years serving the students of Livingston Parish as a reading teacher and school counselor.

As a resident of Denham Springs for over 50 years, Sue loved her community. She enjoyed many seasons of Yellow Jacket football and baseball. She also loved serving in her church. First as a member of Don Ave. Baptist Church and later First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs. She touched many lives as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School worker, and through her service in numerous church organizations, all with the goal of spreading God’s love to her town.

The thing she enjoyed most was spending time with those she loved. From close family to friends from all areas of her life, Sue was always ready to catch up. She especially loved her Thursday ladies Bible Study group which brought her so much joy in her last years. Sue also had a passion for travel and loved to go watch her beloved LSU Tigers play football and take trips with her husband.

More than anything she loved her family. Nothing gave her more happiness than watching her granddaughter cheer on Friday nights or her grandson play baseball for her alma mater, SLU. She was always up for a lunch date or afternoon visit. Although watching Wheel of Fortune with her husband was always a cherished way to end the day.

Sue is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Dawn Fairchild Fabre, son-in-law Randy Fabre, grandchildren Larson and Laine Fabre, sister Pat Stevens and husband Barry, brother Charlie Gibson and wife Rhonda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Frances (Wainwright) Gibson.

Services will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs, Louisiana on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Visitation will be from 12:00pm-2:00pm. The family would like to thank Fresenius Medical Care and their staff for all their years of compassionate care while she was a dialysis patient. Additionally, they would like to thank the Baton Rouge General Hospital, STAT Home Health and St. Joseph’s Hospice for the loving care she received in her final days.
