Phyllis Johnson Cowart

Phyllis Johnson Cowart, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister passed away on December 13, 2025. She was born on May 20, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Lillian Casse Johnson and Wilbur Johnson, Sr. She loved being in her backyard, taking care of her plants and flowers. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and loved going to chapel. She enjoyed crafting and painting, but you could find her any afternoon watching the home shopping network. Her granddaughter and great granddaughter were the light of her life.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Beverly Cowart and Brenda Barber (Bill “Bull Bull”); granddaughter, Jordan DeLaune (Ben); great granddaughter, Maeve DeLaune; brothers, Wilbur Johnson, Jr. (Donna) and David Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Cowart; her parents, Wilbur and Lillian Johnson; sisters, Lillian Lucille Johnson and Diane Francis Guidry; and husband of 43 years, Alvin Cowart.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
