Prudence "Prudy" Darrington Stain, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Born on April 19, 1935, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Prudy lived a long and vibrant life marked by curiosity, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the stories that shaped her world.
The daughter of Gilruth and Anne Darrington, Prudy grew up in Yazoo City alongside her sisters Anne Hancock and Pauline Boyd. Her early years were filled with the warmth of family and the charm of small-town life—memories she would fondly recount throughout her life. She carried with her a timeless spirit and an instinctive approach to living that made her both wise and wonderfully unpredictable.
Prudy married Shelton Douglas Stain, with whom she shared many years of partnership before his passing. She is lovingly remembered by her children: son David Stain and his wife Linda; daughter Anne Roane; and daughter Becky Johnson and her husband Mark.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Cheney Stain and wife Alicia; Nathan Stalder and wife Kaleigh; Drew Stain and wife Lauren; Amanda Beck and husband Trey; Emory Roane; and John Roane—as well as eleven great-grandchildren who brought joy to her.
A woman of intellect with a sharp sense of humor, Prudy was known for her love of reading, traveling, and sharing vivid tales from her youth in Yazoo City. Whether recounting adventures from the past or exploring new places with an open heart, she embraced life with creativity and grace. Her stories were not just recollections—they were gifts passed down to those fortunate enough to hear them.
Her love for the open road mirrored her approach to life: unbound by convention, guided by instinct.
