Raymond Elgene “Gene” Covington, 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Gene was an educator, teaching FFA at Denham Springs High School, but was best know for owning Covington Sales and Service in Denham Springs. He was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Connie Covington; and his brother, J.L. “Cub” Covington.

Gene is survived by his children and their spouses, Kelli and Chad Varnado and Kim and Chris Kinchen and their mother, Jackie Covington; his partner, Margaret Wilmot, and her daughter Brandy Blue and Carl Mello; grandchildren, Jack Varnado, Curry Kinchen, and Karli Elrod; great-grandchildren, Emersyn and Taytum Elrod; nephew, Lawson Covington; sister-in-law, Carol Covington; his best friend, Jeff Sachse; and his loyal companion, Aubrey.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Denham Springs, Monday, February 9, from 11 a.m. until the celebration of his life at 12 p.m., officiated by Dr. Leo Miller. Please share your condolences at www.sealefuneral.com.
