Richard Joseph Landers

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the life of Richard Joseph Landers, who peacefully passed away at home on June 26, 2026, at the age of 72.

Born on June 4, 1954, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, to the late Albert and Lacie Bertrand Landers, Richard found joy in life's simple blessings. He had a remarkable gift for nurturing beauty, especially in his beloved hibiscus flowers. As a proud member of the American Hibiscus Society's Emerald Coast Chapter, serving the Lafayette and New Orleans areas, Richard delighted in sharing his passion for gardening with fellow enthusiasts. Watching his flowers bloom brought him peace, and sharing that beauty with others brought him even greater happiness.

Richard's generous spirit reached far beyond his garden. He was a kind, selfless soul who believed in lending a helping hand whenever he could. Whether volunteering at local food banks or quietly offering support to those in need, he gave of himself with a loving heart and never expected anything in return.

The greatest joy of Richard's life was the love he shared with his devoted partner of 26 years, Joseph Cuff. Together they built a life filled with companionship, laughter, and unconditional love, made complete by their cherished fur babies, Sandy and Boudin. Richard is also lovingly remembered by his brother, Albert "Al" Landers, and his sister, Billie, along with many friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.

Joseph extends his heartfelt gratitude to the members of the American Hibiscus Society for the friendships they shared and for helping cultivate one of Richard's greatest passions. The beauty of every hibiscus bloom will forever serve as a reminder of the happiness Richard found in nature and the love he so freely shared.

Though Richard's earthly journey ended far sooner than those who loved him wished, his memory will continue to blossom in the hearts of all who knew him. This fall, Joseph will honor Richard's adventurous spirit by taking him on one final train ride through the breathtaking landscapes of the Northwest, where the changing colors of the season will serve as a fitting farewell. Following that journey, Richard will be laid to rest in his family plot in New Iberia, Louisiana.

Richard's legacy is not measured by the years he lived, but by the kindness he sowed, the beauty he cultivated, and the love he gave so freely. Like the hibiscus he cherished, his memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
