Roger Dale Morris, a resident of Watson, Louisiana passed away on March 28, 2026 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 18, 1948 to Bertha Lillie Ballard Morris and Rev. Leslie Andrew Morris, Sr. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Roger was a 1966 graduate of Plaquemine High School, where he was voted friendliest of his senior class, and attended Denham Springs and Live Oak schools in his younger days. Before retiring in 2015, he worked for 50 years as a machinist. His strong Christian faith shaped the way he loved, served, and cared for others. He leaves behind a legacy of love and servitude that knows no bounds. Family was near and dear to his heart, proudly holding the title of “Dad” and “PawPaw”. At the foundation of this family is the story of two teenagers who fell deeply in love. It was on the front steps of her home that Linda first caught Roger’s eye, and in that unexpected moment, a love began that would last a lifetime. When he was younger, he had a passion for basketball and could often be found on the court. Later in life, this passion carried over into special moments with his grandchildren, playing games of “pig” and “horse” in the backyard. He spent most of his years at the ballpark coaching and supporting his daughters and grandchildren; hearing his calm voice from the stands talking you through each play. He was “Mr. Fix It”, finding a lawn mower or project to work on every week. He was a friend to all, and a stranger to none; being the first person to lend a helping hand no matter the situation. He left a lasting impact on every person he knew, and will be greatly missed by many.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Jean Rayborn Morris; daughters, Jeanna Michelle Morris and Lesley Morris Howitz (Steven); grandchildren, Haley “Haleybug” Renae Howitz, Hannah “Princess” Michelle Howitz, and Hayden “The Boy” Steven Howitz; sister, Mary Alice Daniel (Bill); brother Leslie Morris, Jr. (Rhonda); brother in laws, Gene Wilkinson and Rev. Paul Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Leslie Andrew Morris, Sr. and Bertha Ballard Morris; son, Roger Dale Morris, Jr.; and sisters, Audrey Mae Wilkinson and Lolita Jones.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Rayborn, Todd Daniel, Frank “Bubbie” Abadie, Jason Rabalais, Jeremy Kirkwood, and Donald Smart.
