Samuel Walters Wright

Samuel “Sambo” Walters Wright, of Wilson, Louisiana, passed away on February 28, 2026, doing what he loved.

He was born on May 31, 1982. Sam came from simple country roots, and at his core that is always who he was. He loved riding motorcycles and living life in the fast lane, but he also knew how to slow things down with a fishing rod and a quiet moment on the water. Known for his infectious smile and laugh, Sam was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was a walking encyclopedia who loved sharing his knowledge and skills with others.

Sam spent his recent years in sobriety working to build a fulfilling lifestyle, and he did. In those years, he had truly just begun living life to its fullest. He created a stable foundation in his life that gave him a different sense of importance. He loved endearingly. However, nothing meant more to him than being “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren, which became his greatest joy and passion.

He is survived by his parents, Cecil Louis Wright and Susan Johnston Blount; his children, Bayli Dawn McClendon, Makenzie Julianne Wright, and Devan Dante Pleasant; and his beloved grandchildren, Oliver Abel Espinoza, Athaliah Essence Espinoza, Quinton Leviticus Pleasant, and Grayson Elias Pleasant. He is also survived by his siblings, Alicia Cormier (Mark Cormier Sr.), Jesse Wright (Brittney Romero), Sara Johnston (Jace Parfait), and Caleb Blount (Anne-Marie Blount). Sam leaves behind many nieces and nephews. As well leaving behind his fur baby, Chevy.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Teddy Ross Johnston and Edna Earl Johnston; paternal grandparents, Julian Walters Wright and Margaret Singletary Wright; great-grandparents, Ira Rozelle Hawes and Margaret Alice Hawes.

Pallbearers will be Cecil Wright, Jesse Wright, Caleb Blount, Kyler Cormier, Devan Pleasant, and Silas “Tip.” Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Cormier, Ayden Cormier, Zachary Cormier, Jacob Cormier, and Asher Cormier.

Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 10, from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery.
