Stephanie Held-Dicks

Stephanie Held-Dicks, beloved sister, mother, artist, reader, and lifelong learner, passed away on August 20, 2026. She was 56 years old.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on October 28, 1969, Stephanie was the daughter of the late Roy Scott Held and Sandra Held. She remained a lifelong Louisianan, deeply connected to the place she called home.

Stephanie had an inquisitive mind and an enduring love of learning. She earned her Master of Library Science from Louisiana State University, her alma mater, and was an avid reader with a particular appreciation for literature. Books were not simply something she read; they reflected her natural curiosity and her desire to understand people, places, and the world around her.

She was also an artist. Painting gave Stephanie a way to observe the world differently and translate what she saw into something uniquely her own. Her interests extended well beyond books and art. She loved to travel, explore new cuisines, and experience the places she visited. Ocean cruises were among her favorite ways to travel, offering her the chance to see new places while enjoying the freedom of being at sea.

Stephanie also had a lifelong love of animals, particularly her dogs and cats, and she took great pleasure in their companionship. She valued her time with family and friends and the quieter moments shared with those closest to her.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Connor, and by her parents, Roy Scott and Sandra Held.

She is survived by her brothers, Scott Held and Steven Held, as well as extended family and dear friends.

Stephanie's life cannot be reduced to a list of accomplishments or interests. She was a woman with her own way of seeing things—through the pages of a book, the stroke of a paintbrush, a new destination, a memorable meal, or the simple companionship of an animal she loved. Those who knew her will remember her not only for what she did, but for the person she was and the memories they made together.

She will be deeply missed.
