William “Bill” Shrewsberry, Jr., of Baton Rouge, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025 after a brief but courageous fight with cancer. Bill was a graduate of the LSU College of Engineering with a degree in Civil Engineering. Thereafter, Bill was a 40-year civil servant with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development - DOTD. His DOTD position was Railroad Safety Engineer where he oversaw and coordinated DOTD activities and policies among the various national railroads across Louisiana. Bill was known to be a loyal and dedicated DOTD professional, fearlessly overseeing the railroad safety related interests of the State of Louisiana. He frequently participated in national railroad safety conferences throughout the United States, often traveling to the conferences by Amtrak.
Bill was a lifelong, avid LSU Tigers fan and often attended both home and away games. He spent some of his final hours discussing the upcoming Tigers football season under the rising leadership of Tiger’s Coach, Lane Kiffen.
Bill was a very caring, accepting and generous man and he dearly loved his family and broad network of friends, both near and far. He was known to stay in frequent contact with friends and family every day through texts, phone calls and emails. One of Bill’s favorite activities was to join friends for meals at various restaurants in and around Baton Rouge, especially early morning breakfasts at Frank’s on Airline.
Rock and Roll music was a large and important part of Bill’s life. He focused on sub-genres Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Progressive Rock and Heavy Metal. He became an avid collector of CDs and vinyl records as an adult. Bill also enjoyed attending live concerts throughout the Southeast, seeing some of his favorite performers including his #1 band, Deep Purple, numerous times. Bill will be remembered for his extensive Rock and Roll wardrobe (mostly hats and tee shirts) and for his interest in, and support of, both veteran performers and more contemporary bands.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Curtis Shrewsberry, Sr., and Connie Byrd Odom Shrewsberry. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Cecil R. Shrewsberry and Lettie Fink Shrewsberry and maternal grandparents, Otto Oscar Odom and Connie Easterly Odom. Bill is survived by several cousins and countless friends.
