William Thomas (Tommy Sharp) died on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the age of 78. He is survived by three daughters, Florence Eberts, Angela Worsham (Richard), and Allison Sharp Swanson (Travis); two grandsons; one brother, Darwin Sharp (Lynn), one sister, Susan McCormick, and one half-brother, Hebert Carter Siegling of South Carolina. He is also survived by Annette Sharp, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, fishing buddies, old story tellers and exaggerators of the truth.
Tommy worked for the Louisiana State University in the Physical Plant Department for 35 years and retired to enjoy time with his family and friends, fishing pals, and other old story tellers. Not that he ever was bored with fishing, he just found a new love in designing and making his own fishing lures with his buddies Darrell and Vince. He gave away more than he kept and enjoyed teaching others how to tie fly baits. He gifted his eye Surgeon, Dr. Daniel Nelson, with some of the last of his bait collection before his eyesight dimmed that hobby and there was nothing left to be done to fix it.
When he made a friend, he kept that friend. That included neighbors that he would refer to as “neighbor-in-laws.” He had a daily passion of watching Jeopardy and immediately calling his friend, Gerald, to have a breakdown of who did what correctly, who didn’t, and who shouldn’t have been on the show in the first place. They always routed for anyone from Louisiana, no matter how short lived their stay was on the show.
Grand Isle was Tommy’s happy place. Any fishing hole would do but he was especially happy to be at Grand Isle with family and friends. He was a humble and loving brother, friend, father, grandfather, uncle and cousin.
